Zillow is where most American buyers start their home search. So when you’re selling, it’s a fair question: can you actually add a video to your Zillow listing? The answer requires an honest explanation and a better alternative.
What Zillow actually says about listing videos
Zillow supports 3D Home tours through their specific certified partner programme, primarily Matterport. However, Zillow does not allow you to upload a standard video file or embed a YouTube link directly in a regular listing. That feature simply doesn’t exist for most sellers and agents.
The same limitation applies to Rightmove in the UK. Standard video uploads are not supported in a typical Rightmove listing either. Both platforms support some form of virtual tour via specific partners, but neither accepts a regular video in the way you’d upload a photo.
Standard video is not available in a Zillow or Rightmove listing. But there’s an approach that outperforms a listing video anyway.
Why you still need a property video when selling your home
Think about how buyers actually behave. Yes, they search on Zillow. But before that, they’re on Instagram and Facebook, scrolling through their feeds on the couch, getting inspired by properties they didn’t know existed five minutes ago.
A buyer who discovers your home through a video on social media arrives at the viewing already half-convinced. They’ve seen the rooms move, felt the light in the living room, heard the music that matched the atmosphere of the space. They’re not comparing anymore. They’re confirming.
That’s what a Zillow photo can’t do. That’s what video can.
Where to use your property video instead
Instagram and Facebook
A 15 to 30 second property Reel can reach thousands of local buyers organically. Share it on your profile, ask family, friends and neighbours to share it further and add a location tag to help the algorithm surface it to people in the right area. Video on Instagram consistently outperforms static photo posts in reach and engagement.
Quick tip
Post on Thursday or Friday morning, when buyers are starting to plan weekend viewings. The timing makes a measurable difference in engagement.
Your personal network via text and email
A video link shared via text message or email travels further than a Zillow URL. Recipients can forward it instantly to anyone they know who’s in the market. Word-of-mouth is still one of the most effective ways to find a motivated buyer and video makes it easier than ever.
Facebook and Instagram ads
Your MotionMyProperty video is ready to run as a paid ad from the moment you receive it. Target by zip code, age range and homebuying intent. Video ads consistently deliver higher click-through rates and lower cost per enquiry than photo ads across all real estate price ranges.
No video on Zillow. A cinematic video on Instagram, Facebook and in your network. Those channels reach the most motivated buyers.
